Yellow Foam Event
I sat on floor, and tears were running down my cheeks. My thumb and index finger got hurt. I was trying to put a bandage on them. My cat Meaya was hiding under a desk. Yellow foam covered all over her mouth and body, and she still tried to spit more. This was a scene after I tried to feed my cat medicine, which was treated by a veterinarian to cure her cold.
According to a book “The Well Cat Book”, feeding drugs to cats will not be difficult if keepers follow these steps. First of all, immobilize your cat on a table. Then take a capsule or a tablet by one hand, and put the other on the cat’s head and open its mouth. After that, use your thumb and index finger to push the drug into its throat as soon as possible. Finally, close the cat’s mouth until it swallows the drug. Although it seems so easy, an awful accident happened.
A few months ago, Meaya was sick. The veterinarian gave me some capsules and asked me to feed her three times a day. “Do you know how to feed capsules to a cat?” he asked. “Sure.” I replied confidently. After I came home, I read the instructions which the book gave again. Then I picked up Meaya and put her on a desk. Since she was still nervous, Meaya twisted, kicked, and moved violently to try to get free. Before I immobilized her, she scratched my arm. When I opened and put a capsule into her mouth, she struggled violently and escaped from me. Then she spit the capsule onto the floor. I picked up the softened capsule and tried that again. As soon as my fingers put into Meaya’s mouth, she bit them, and the teeth pierced the nail of the thumb. When she tried to spit the capsule again, the shell of the capsule melted. I completely believed that the powder was very bitter because she looked painful and started spitting a large amount of yellow foam. A few minutes later, the yellow foam not only covered all over her mouth and body but also spread on the floor.
After the event, I accepted the suggestion of the veterinarian and bought a springy-like device to feed my cat drugs. Consequently, it didn’t work at all. It is clear that there is no easy way to feed a cat drugs. The best way is keeping your cat healthy.
